Background of the Study
Post-cardiac surgery care is critical to ensuring recovery and preventing complications. Nurses are often responsible for monitoring patients, administering treatments, and providing education to promote recovery. In Kaduna State, where healthcare resources may be limited, the effectiveness of nurses' knowledge and practice in managing post-cardiac surgery patients can have a significant impact on patient outcomes. This study aims to evaluate the level of nurses' knowledge and their adherence to best practices in managing these patients in Kaduna State hospitals.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the increasing number of cardiac surgeries being performed in hospitals, there are concerns about the adequacy of post-operative care provided by nurses. Inadequate knowledge and poor practices in managing post-cardiac surgery patients can lead to complications such as infections, thromboembolic events, and delayed recovery. Understanding the level of nurses' knowledge and practice is essential to improve patient outcomes and develop targeted interventions.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the level of nurses’ knowledge in managing post-cardiac surgery patients.
To evaluate the practices of nurses in post-cardiac surgery care.
To identify challenges nurses face in providing optimal care for post-cardiac surgery patients.
Research Questions
What is the level of knowledge among nurses in managing post-cardiac surgery patients in Kaduna State hospitals?
How do nurses in Kaduna State practice post-cardiac surgery care?
What challenges do nurses face in providing care for post-cardiac surgery patients?
Research Hypotheses
Nurses in Kaduna State hospitals have inadequate knowledge in managing post-cardiac surgery patients.
Nurses in Kaduna State hospitals do not adhere to best practices in post-cardiac surgery care.
There are significant barriers to effective post-cardiac surgery care, including insufficient training and resources.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on nurses working in hospitals that provide cardiac surgery services in Kaduna State. Limitations include possible biases in self-reported knowledge and practice, and challenges in obtaining a representative sample from hospitals with varying resources.
Definitions of Terms
